The STORY

"Imua" is a Hawaiian word meaning "to move forward."

It was used by King Kamehameha I as a rallying cry to unite the tribalistic Sandwich Islands under a single governing body of shared security called the Hawaiian Kingdom.

In a similar fashion, we are uniting blockchains under a single universal protocol for shared security called Imua.

We built Imua for ourselves first. Co-founders RJ and Warren have been building in the crypto industry full-time for 7 and 12 years respectively. So they have the battle scars to show and the war stories to share. They simply wanted an easier way to build and deploy web3 infrastructure anywhere.

Imua is the first L1 blockchain protocol that is bootstrapped using the shared security of other blockchains such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP. This not only means Imua is the genesis service (AVS) on the network and is dogfooding its own design, but it also makes Imua sufficiently decentralized from day 1.

Imua is a purpose-built L1 to extend the economic security of blockchains like Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Solana to off-chain services, like bridges, oracles, AI, games, and more.

WhY Now?

Trust in institutions is at an all-time low, while the crypto market has grown immensely. There's a huge opportunity to combine blockchain's economic security with off-chain services to create decentralized Trust-as-a-Service (dTaaS), restoring trust and replacing human fallibility with mathematical certainty.

WHAT IT IS

Purpose BUILT L1

Imua is a universal protocol for shared security. Imua is designed as an omnichain L1 protocol with its own Tendermint-based BFT consensus mechanism and an enshrined price oracle.

MODULAR

Imua handles all the complex staking and restaking logic (onboarding, deposits, locking, unlocking, slashing, accounting, claims, and rewards) in modules at the protocol level rather than at the smart contract layer. This modular approach reduces smart contract risk and allows for rapid horizontal scaling across many different chains.

DECENTRALIZED

Imua uses a novel bootstrap technique called restaked Proof-of-Stake (rPoS) to initialize the L1 network from inception in a more open, inclusive, and decentralized way. This ensures that the validator set isn't pre-determined by a few stakeholders and Imua L1 network is sufficiently decentralized from genesis.
